jigCommunity Covenant with Military and Veteran Organizations to be signed Presidential Awards to be presented
Harrisburg- On February 17, 2012 at the Mid Winter Music Festival, 4:00 pm at the Convention Center in Valley Forge, Clan Irwin Association (Mid-Atlantic) will sign a Community Covenant with the US Military, Veteran Organizations and their Families. Community Covenant is a formal affirmation of support by state and local communities to Service member, Veterans and their families –Active, Guard and Reserve.
Also signing the Covenant will be representatives from the State VFW, the Festival Director, Friends of the Medal of Honor Grove, a DoD Korean War 60th Commemoration Ambassador, PA Wounded Warriors Inc., and the Scottish-American Military Society.

An open Covenant will be available for Festival attendees to sign to show their support to the Military, Veterans and Families.
Initially an Army initiative, ceremonies have evolved to include recognition of ALL Service Members and their families. Signing ceremonies have been scheduled for cities and towns both with -and without -a significant military presence.

The Community Covenant initiative is tailored to the local level, with leaders at both local and state levels participating Often, a Community Covenant signing has led to new programs or initiatives of support for Service Members and their families.

Following the signing some President’s Volunteer Service Awards will be presented, including the Presidential “Call to Service” lifetime achievement award.

ABOUT THE PRESIDENT’S VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD; The PRESIDENT’S VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD is a prestigious national honor offered in recognition of sustained volunteer service. Established in 2003, the AWARD is available on an annual basis to individuals, groups and families who have met or exceeded requirements for volunteer service and have demonstrated exemplary citizenship through volunteering. The AWARD shares this achievement as a way to inspire others to contribute to their communities through volunteer service and to make volunteer service a central part of their lives
